We all have friends and people that are there for us no matter what, friendships are so important. God created friendships, another word we can use for that is fellowship, your friendship circle needs Jesus to survive otherwise it will not last. Friendships need honesty, care ,commitment and love but above all else your friendships need Jesus. It is the worst thing when you follow Jesus and your friends don’t you will for surely bump heads because your outlook on life would be different. It is the worst thing but also the best thing that can happen you can be a teacher or even a mentor not thinking your better than them but helping them in love and humility it is very hard at times but the people we surround ourselves with have to have a positive affect on us mentally and physically.
Surround yourself with the right group that follow the same values in life and having Jesus in the center of your friendships you would also be there spiritually and emotionally friends are there to carry each other. Without friendships we cannot go through tough times. I’m so thankful that God blessed me with the most amazing people in my life at work and at home without them I wouldn’t have a desire for God as I have now.
True friends expose sin in us that keeps us from God.Sin deceives us. It darkens our understanding and makes us fools. So much so that we may be walking in sin and convinced that we are obeying God. This is why we desperately need friends. We need friends to lovingly show us our sin. We need friends to help us see our blind spots. We need friends to speak with brutal honesty and tender compassion, telling us the truth about ourselves even when we don’t want to hear it .This is a vital function of community that few people want. We’d much rather have friends who always tell us what we want to hear, who show us the false grace of excusing sin and give us false hope that we can grow closer to God without repentance. But because sin is a poison to our souls and a thief of our joy in God, we cannot afford to forsake this kind of friendship.
The Bible tells us to choose our friends very carefully.
“A wise man is strong, yes, a man of knowledge increases strength; for by wise counsel you will wage your own war, and in a multitude of counselors there is safety.” (Proverbs 24:5)
“Every purpose is established by counsel; by wise counsel wage war.” (Proverbs 20:18)
“Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.” (Proverbs 15:22)
“Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter days.” (Proverbs 19:20)
“Cease listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.” (Proverbs 19:27)
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God.” (2 Corinthians 6:14)
“He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.” (Proverbs 13:20)
“A scoffer seeks wisdom and does not find it, but knowledge is easy to him who understands. Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.” (Proverbs 14:6)
“Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers …” (Philippians 3:2)
“But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us.” (2 Thessalonians 3:6)
“Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you have learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.” (Romans 16:17)
Jesus wants us to build up good friendships to follow Him.We have to choose our friends wisely because our souls matter. Building each other up in Christ will give you the greatest joy. Always have a good word for someone else because your good word can change a persons life.
